• Bollards Bollards are heavy duty posts, used to prevent vehicular access or to protect structures from being accidentally hit.  Bolt-mounted bollards can be installed directly to asphalt using our BoltHold anchors.

    Due to the forces that can be exerted on the bollard by a car hitting it, we recommend using our SP58 anchors.  To save costs, you may consider using 2 SP58 on the side facing traffic and 2 SP18 on the back side.

  • Carports Carport anchoring is a popular application for our anchors. We have developed a special calculator that will guide you as to the type and number of anchors required for each post of the carport.  The information below is a general guide.  We recommend that you consult the calculator to find the lowest cost solution that meets the wind resistance requirements in your area.
    • For protected areas with winds below 50 mph, use 4 SP12 for each post
    • For windy areas, use 4 SP18 for each post
    • For lean-to carports that use the house as support on one side, use  4 SP10 on each post

  • Delineators, Traffic
    Delineators are vertical markers that guide vehicular traffic by creating a visible lane.  A typical application is to separate traffic from crossing over from one lane to another, or to separate vehicles from pedestrians.

    Delineators are subject to heavy physical abuse from meandering vehicles.  Most modern delineators are made from flexible high-visibility plastic, so that they yield but bounce back up if attacked.   The forces on the base of the delineators are quite high, and most often epoxy glues are not strong enough to keep the delineators firmly attached for any length of time.

    Our SP10 and SP12 are suitable solutions for attaching delineators.  We recommend using 2-3 anchors per delineator.  If traffic is active on both side of the delineators, it is best to use 4 anchors as there must be 2 anchors on the traffic side.

  • Furniture, Outdoor Outdoor furniture, such as benches, tables, multi-seated benches, and charging stations, can all be installed directly to asphalt. This is a significant cost and time saving over the replacement of asphalt with poured concrete, then installing expansion anchors in the cured concrete, and finally installing the furniture. The furniture can be readily removed or replaced by simply unbolting it from the anchors.

    Our anchors are used in hundreds of furniture installations in the public sector and in private facilities and parks.

    • For light furniture such as benches we recommend using the SP12.  
    • For multi seat tables we recommend using the SP18 as these see significant forces.

  • Posts & Fences
    • You can install any post that has a mounting plate to asphalt
    • Use our Fence Post calculator to choose suitable anchors
    • The type of fence (solid wall, slats, chain link) has a major bearing on the wind force that needs to be resisted
    • Use an oversized mounting plate to reduce the size/quantity of anchors required  
    • Consider placing a larger plate over the one the comes with the post

  • Racks, Storage BoltHold asphalt anchors have been used to secure industrial storage racks against earthquakes and against accidental bumping by forklifts.  As a rule, lighter shelving needs heavier anchors, because the weight of the shelving provide by itself resistance against accidental bumping.  For earthquake protection the heavier anchors will likely perform better.  Please consult a professional engineer when attempting to meet local safety codes.

    • Shelving must be stable with and without the merchandize on it.
    • Shelf vertical posts must have heavy duty mounting plates on the bottom.
    • The plates distribute the weight over a larger area of the asphalt to prevent sinking.
    • Anchors must be installed under the mounting plates.
    • Use SP18 or SP58.  The SP10 or SP12 bolts do not have adequate shear capacity.

  • Railing
    Install railings directly to asphalt.  For railings that simply separate a pedestrian walkway from the roadway, you can use our SP10.  If the railing need to protect people from falling, we recommend the SP12, SP18 or even the SP58 -- depending on the code requirements for force resistance.

    Note that often railings are installed at the edge of the asphalt area.  We recommend that the railing be installed at least 7" from the edge of the anchors field.  Contact the factory 1 973.669.8214 for free support.

  • Ramps
    Ramps are sloped pathways that provide access between two levels.  BoltHold anchors are often used when at least one end of the ramp is resting on asphalt.  A common application is when the ramp high  level is attached to the building structure, and the lower level is in a parking lot.

    If the high level is firmly attached to the building concrete structure, use SP10 anchors for the lower level anchoring.  If the ramp is free-standing and supported by 4 or more posts, all of which are on asphalt, use the SP12 for a heavy (>300 lbs.) ramp and SP18 for a light weight ramp.

  • Rinks, Ice Hockey Recreational Ice Hockey rinks are often assembled over asphalt parking areas. The wall surrounding the rink is typically 4 feet high and is called the Boards. The boards need to resist player crashing into them. Our anchors have been used successfully to secure the brackets supporting the Boards. And once the season is over, the installation can be disassembled. The anchors stay in the asphalt, flush with the surface, and can be reused next season. To protect the thread of the anchors when not in use, use our ThreadGuard plastic snaps.

  • Scaffolding Our anchors are used to secure scaffolding for the duration of a construction project. The model of the anchor needs to be specified by the project engineer as it depends on numerous factors, specific to each project. We would recommend using at least the SP12, and preferably the SP18.

  • Shopping Cart Corrals
    Shopping cart corrals are mostly installed in parking lots.  After at least one person was gravely injured during a windstorm that hurled a shopping corral, some major grocery chains started tying the corrals down using our BoltHold anchors.

    We recommend using the SP10 for areas with moderate (50mph) wind gusts or SP12 for areas where winds up to 70 mph are expected.  Over 70 mph consider using the SP18 anchors.

  • Signage Parking signs, traffic sign and any surface-mounted signs can be secured to asphalt using our BoltHold anchors.
    • Use our Sign Calculator to find the least-cost type and number of anchors that will meet the wind force requirements
    • Note that sometimes using 2 of the stronger anchors is less expensive than using 4 of the smaller ones
    • If using only two anchors, these must be installed diagonally from each other
    • If there are only 3 holes in the base plate, use 3 of the anchor size where 2 would do.  The reason is that with 3 hole bases, the holes are 120 degrees apart and you can not install them diagonally.

  • Wheel Stop Also known as Parking Stop, these stops protect the car and objects behind the stop from being damaged if the car is driven too close. These wheel stops are often secured to the roadway with simple rebar rods. The rebars fails quickly as they depend on friction with the asphalt, but the asphalt compresses away from the rebar and loses it holding ability. Use SP18 for mild abuse application. Use SP58 for heavy duty applications.

  • Bump Pad Bump Pads are an ADA requirement for new construction involving street intersections and other hazards for the visually impaired. The pads need to be securely attached to the walkway. If the surface is asphalt, our AM625 is the perfect solution. It will hold and hold, requires only a ¼" hole in the mat to run the screw through it, will never rust, and allows the mat to be removed for repair, replacement or for other considerations. The suggested anchor is AM625.
